Remote and rugged, Michipicoten Island features some unique geology, vegetation and wildlife. The presentation will look at the features of the island and some of the similarities and differences between Michipicoten Island and the Slate Islands. It will also touch on the new predator-prey dynamic, with the colonization of wolves in 2014, and some of the research and monitoring being undertaken on the island.
The meeting will be held in the Library at W.C. Eaket Secondary School in Blind River at 7 p.m. There is no charge for this event and everyone is welcome!

Wakomata Lake Sept 23, 2017
For the Wakomata day trip we will meet at the Tunnel Lake Trading Post at 10:00. We will paddle part of Wakomata and have lunch at a beach. Difficulty level will be flat water with possibility of wind and waves. There should be some nice fall colours to enjoy.
If there is interest, we could have supper at Wakomata Shores Resort. I would need to know in advance to make a reservation.
Please contact me at cnr.lipinski@outlook.com if you are interested or require further information. Contact Gary at mycsmith@hotmail.com if you need to borrow club equipment for the trip.

Long wknd Walkhouse Bay from our trip leader Sirje..."Yes, the trip was a go! There were 3 of us - all ladies! (I've been trying to run ladies only trips for a few years and have had few takers and now, when I opened it up to all, only girls were interested!) Kathy Ellis and Laura Chaplinski joined me for a fabulous weekend on the very scenic Whalesback Channel - in my opinion even more gorgeous than the Benjamins! Weather was absolutely perfect for Friday and Saturday (picture smooth as glass waters and bright sunshine), however, Sunday held some cloudy, windy weather for us; nothing terrible, just a contrast to the great days proceeding our return. We managed to explore the John Island coastline and Beardrop Harbour for total of something in the neighbourhood of 35 km! A great campsite with a view of the setting sun, great company with plenty of chatter, and great food - what a way to top off the summer paddling!"

From Wally...
Good News:
The Montreal Canoe rides at The Mississagi Park Lumberjack Days went very smoothly. We did 5 runs with up to 25 in the boat! Most people enjoyed their first ride in a big canoe, some their first ride in any canoe. There were lots of thank you's and one little 6 year-old in particular was just over the moon with enthusiasm - paddled throughout and couldn't get the smile off his face! He came back twice to say how much he loved it and wanted to get into paddling now! He was so cute! He wasn't alone in his appreciation, but he certainly was remarkable.
That's why we do this, and it's so good to get these reminders.
Thanks to Maureen, Sandra, and Laura for their enthusiasm and expertise. Maureen was a trooper with Registration and pfd's, ably assisted by Rob who was lent to us as a spare volunteer by the Park. He too was awesome, and upbeat, - dragged his family out, answered French fluently went out on two rides. Sandra and Laura are very capable paddlers and I could relax and know that the boat and the people were safe. It was a good day.

Call at 705-461-0037 or 705-943-6317 if you have any questions.
